What is a client-delivery portal?

Last materially reviewed 2026-09-19

Quick answerA portal connects the client promise to the work; it does not replace your responsibility for delivering it.
What to know

What it is: the shared front door

A client-delivery portal is the place where a customer can ask for work, see what happens next and find the resulting files. An agency may connect that experience to billing and an internal task system. ManyRequests positions its product around this connection. A portal is not the same thing as your public marketing website, your accounting records or a promise that a request will be finished immediately.

What to know

How the handoff works

Imagine a design client buying a monthly package. The client submits a brief, the agency decides whether it is ready, someone owns the task, and an approver accepts a particular version. These are separate events even when they appear in one application. Our useful minimum record is the request, entitlement, owner, current version and next decision. That is an editorial framework, not a description of a mandatory vendor configuration.

What to know

When a simpler arrangement is enough

A solo designer with one predictable client may already have a clear shared folder and a dependable approval email. Moving that client into a portal adds a login and a new habit. The change becomes more useful when missing briefs, unclear priorities or repeated status questions consume attention. Identify the repeated problem before adding software; a central place that nobody uses is not a central source of truth.

What to know

Choose the missing capability

Write down the last three awkward handoffs and mark whether each was an intake, production, approval or billing problem. Ask a prospective provider to demonstrate those transitions with fictional material. If the demonstration only shows an attractive dashboard, it has not answered your question. Keep the existing process until the proposed replacement has an owner, a clear client instruction and a recoverable record of unfinished work.

A completed onboarding checklist means you are ready to work—not that the purchased work is complete.
